Visiting Joker Marchant Stadium: What to Bring, Parking, & Recommendations

So you want to visit a Tigers spring training game? Here’s what you can and can’t bring into the park, information about parking and a general feedback about the park itself.

You can bring: baseball gloves, cameras (video is allowed), and small umbrellas.

You can NOT bring: coolers, food, folding chairs, glass bottles and large umbrellas.

Remember, it’s sunny Florida, so bring sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses because you don’t want to have to buy those at the park.  Also, if you’re planning on sitting in the Berm area (the grassy area behind left field) bring a blanket to sit on!

There is plenty of parking available, however the parking lot can be a zoo to get out of after the game, although the parking attendees really helped the process speed along.  Joker Marchant Stadium recommends you buy your parking pass ahead of time if you purchase your tickets early.  More information on parking and driving directions to the stadium can be found, here.

As far as a stadium goes, I really enjoyed Joker Marchant.  It’s a great spring training field and has plenty of seating and some really fun concessions.  The BBQ concession stand was a hit with my dad and my mom and I really enjoyed the strawberry shortcake that the vendors brought around to sell.

Life as a Tiger Fan

I grew up around baseball, my grandpa played, my dad played, my brother played and I tried to play.  You could say it’s in my blood.  I’ve always been sort of a “girly” girl, however you could never rip me away from a baseball game.  I’ve been a Tigers fan my whole life, dating back to the days when they played at Tiger Stadium (may it RIP).

Since I’ve been in college, I’ve begun to follow the Tigers around to different ballparks.  It started with a trip down to Joker Merchant Stadium for spring training and then evolved into short road trips to nearby states. So far I’m holding a winning record for my away games.

As my first post in this blog, I wanted to share my background with the Tigers, how I became a fan, why I remain a fan and why I visit them in different parks.

I’m from Michigan, your first clue as to why I’d cheer for the Tigers, especially when they were in their dark days during my childhood years.  Your second clue to why I would cheer for the Tigers is my grandfather, he was scouted for the Tigers back in the day and they offered to pay for his scholarship to a university to play ball there or play in the minors (he took the scholarship) it didn’t end up amounting to much for his life, though.  And third, my boyfriend,Trammell, has deepened my passion for the Tigers because of his passion  (He’s named after former Tiger, Alan Trammell).  Together we have shared our trips to ballparks and our many nights of MLB TV and FSD.

Soon I’ll be someone who has been to every MLB ballpark and my growing souvenir cup collection will prove it, but until then I’m dreaming of meeting the Tigers players and maybe someday getting married on the field at Comerica Park (a girl can dream, right?)
